thank you for believing in me

thank you for believing in me

Hi, I am writing to say thank you for believing in me. I wrote this spring asking for help in losing weight.  My health was in jeopardy and I just wasn’t successful getting it better. I wanted to attend a class, but there weren’t any in Fort Myers, Florida where I live. You replied, “Start one in your church!” Sooo! I approached the pastor and, voila, started a group in March 2011. We were small and due to job changes got smaller! We did finish the first book. I lost weight and got healthier and my husband came along for the ride. He’s doing better too! Then I did the summer book at home. To date, I have lost 20lbs. Yea! But that is not the reason I am writing. For years I have been trying to do this by going to other programs and they all missed something. I needed Christian accountability.

Better Together

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work.  If one falls down, his friend can help him up.  But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!  …A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12b We are all basking in the afterglow of yet another fabulous Leadership Summit.  Our theme this year was “Better Together” and this month I want to talk with you about how and why we are better together by being in First Place 4 Health. We make lifetime friends. Some of the best friends I have on this earth are people I have met through the FP4H program.  Just recently, we rejoiced with Eldon and Jeannie Wall, FP4H leaders in Bremerton, WA, who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.  On the contrary, we were saddened when Vicki Heath’s (FP4H staff member) mom left

Spur Each Other On

Spur Each Other On

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. –Hebrews 10:24 I grew up on a farm, so when I see the word “spur,” I know that means to push forward with a little bit of pain until you run in your potential. That is what my First Place 4 Health friends have done for me. My family DNA lends me to die of a heart attack early, but I do not believe that my “sisters” will allow this to happen. I run an organization called Seasoned Sisters, and the word “sister” is a building term, which means to hammer 2 x 4’s together. My FP4H friends and my Seasoned Sisters “spur” me forward by nailing their lives to mine.  They hold me accountable for better life choices by doing them with me. Maria walks the 5K race by my side. The Body of Christ Coming Together

The Body of Christ Coming Together

Summit 2011 at Houston’s First Baptist Church this past weekend was just fabulous.   We had 160 men and women from 26 states and Canada joining us in celebrating the 30thanniversary of First Place 4 Health. The theme for all of our events this year is Better Together and this weekend was proof positive of that statement.  The Scripture for our theme is Ecclesiastes 4:12: Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. We also introduced our brand new devotional book, Better Together, and a new First Place 4 Health Bible study by the same name at the Summit.  Many of the devotionals were contributed by First Place 4 Health members and leaders.  The books are available on our websiteand at all of our Better Together events. Nothing is more beautiful to me than to see the body of Christ come together in Christian love and unity.  This is exactly what
