Be Right

Be Right

It may sound odd and not good grammar, but “Be right” is right. My first thought on this part of the commandment to love the Lord with all of your soul, would be to “do right”. But we know it’s not about doing; it’s about being. Being a child of God and not necessarily doing everything right. Doing right would be trying to earn God’s love and affection for me.  If that were true Jesus died in vain. I can be right with God because of His great gift of salvation. Jesus paid the price for our sin. We do not have to pay the penalty. He has done this for us as His Grace Gift. Therefore, I can be right. This is where it starts. When we have Christ, we have new life, a better life, and apart from Christ there is no “Best Life”. He is the way,

What Does “Best Life Ever” Mean Anyway?

What Does "Best Life Ever" Mean Anyway?

What does a conference about “best life ever” mean anyway? What does a really well-lived, healthy life look like? I look around and I don’t see many examples. I see people walking around in unhealthy bodies, depressed, angry and hopeless. Jesus speaking in John 10:10 describes that kind of life very well.  He said “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” NIV (emphasis added) What does life to the full mean for you?  I believe Jesus was talking about an abundant life in every area of who we are; body, soul, mind and spirit. It means there is a hopeful way to deal with the depression that has been plaguing you. It means there is a healthy way to lose weight and live a holy lifestyle. It means there is a way to

Feel Right

Feel Right

I started this journey in 2006, and more than a decade later I’m faced with the same questions I answered when I started this journey. WHAT – Initially, I desired weight loss. Now I treasure sustained health and wellness for my lifetime. WHY – Before, I longed to look great, feel great, and enjoy a great life. Now I choose wellness to honor God, which allows me to serve Him for as long as He has me on earth. WILL YOU – For decades I responded, “No, I won’t. I can’t. I’ve already tried.” Then I recognized God’s unimaginable love for me and responded “yes” when prompted to embrace my body as the temple of His Holy Spirit. HOW – I surrendered to God’s supernatural power. In obedience I relinquished my time and desires as I changed to a healthier lifestyle one day at a time and one pound at a time. I relied

Eat Right

Eat Right

You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV) The human body is an amazing and complex creation. God created us, breathed life into us and our bodies are the temple for the Holy Spirit. We have a responsibility to properly care for God’s temple until we take our very last breath. As Dr. Dick Couey says in the First Place 4 Health DVD, Why Should a Christian Be Physically Fit, we want to be strong enough to serve God as long and as best as we can. But eating healthy doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few simple tips to get you started: EAT THINGS YOU CAN GROW. An apple comes from a tree. A potato comes from the ground. Where does a Twinkie come from? Unprocessed, whole foods will

Pulling Weeds

Pulling Weeds

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 Long before the days of weed whackers and chemical sprays, there was only one way to get rid of the pesky weeds that threatened the survival of the fruit-bearing plants: with a hoe and lots of hard work. During the summers I spent at my grandparent’s farm in Arkansas, my grandmother, who was very protective of her vegetable garden, made sure daily weed pulling was a priority. Just cutting the tops off at the ground wasn’t enough to please Grandma. She insisted that we pulled the obnoxious plants out by the roots, which meant backbreaking work! Grandma knew that cultivation was more than sticking seeds in the ground and hoping they would thrive. Feeding what was good and destroying what
