God Does the Impossible

God Does the Impossible

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. MARK 11:24 During my first session of First Place 4 Health, I admit that I didn’t exercise much at all. I fully embraced other parts of the program, like the food plan, daily Bible study and Scripture memory, but I held on to my lifelong hatred of exercise. Oh, I had my reasons: my back hurt, I didn’t like sweating, I didn’t have time, and the list of excuses went on and on. My prayer partner encouraged me to think outside the box to find creative ways to incorporate exercise into my day. I tried, but all the while I held on to my negative attitude about exercise. During my second session of First Place 4 Health, I realized that although I had asked God to help me exercise

Power Friends

Power Friends

When I read the statistic, I wanted to cry. I remember what it felt like to be overweight, but I never considered ending my life as the solution. According to a study by researcher Brene Brown, the single largest group of high school teenagers considering or attempting suicide are teenage girls who feel they are overweight.   Were they obese because they were lonely or were they lonely because they were obese? Doesn’t matter, does it? Despite all of the connection on Facebook and social media, loneliness is on the increase.  Loneliness is now proved to be connected to health problems. The survey, conducted by Cigna, the health insurer , found widespread loneliness, with nearly half of Americans reporting they feel alone, isolated, or left out at least some of the time. The nation’s 75 million millennials (ages 23-27) and Generation Z adults (18-22) are lonelier than any other U.S. demographic and report

My Place for Change

In 2005, my sister lost forty pounds. I wanted to know, what had changed? She’d told me the First Place program was an answer to prayer. When I first heard about the program, I didn’t want to listen. I’d decided there was no hope for me. In the past, when I worked on my weight problem, I would struggle, give up and gain more weight than I lost. I convinced myself I was better off doing nothing and accepting my fate—fat forever. It took me another year before I realized running away from God’s plan is not the best plan. I could not conceive how God would use an obese woman who had failed at weight loss countless times to lead a First Place 4 Health Group. At 274 pounds, I had no idea the wonderful changes God had planned for me. I ordered a Group Starter Kit and was

A Friend to All

A Friend to All

This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 1 John 3:11 Attending church is not about me and it’s not about you. It’s about Him. Each Sunday, when you enter your church, remember that each and every person you meet, greet and encounter is bringing with them the wounds of their past, the struggles of their present and the unspoken anxieties of their future. What people want to know is whether you will love them just as they are, even if they don’t fit the mold or change as quickly as you would like them to change. Most people are shy, distrustful and relationally impaired. Our mandate is to make friends out of them, not just benchwarmers and financial contributors. Jesus told His disciples, “I have called you friends” (John 15:15). Take the opportunity and privilege on Sunday to be a friend to everyone you

5 Things You Need to Know About Jesus ~ Vicki Heath

I have a folder in my Outlook email account created to keep a record of what God is doing through His Son Jesus. Jesus is happening in the lives of men and women around the country. A lot of this freedom work is a result of what God is doing through our FP4H Bible Study, Be Free by Gari Meacham. Jesus is the shame taker– According to Brene Brown’s bookI Thought It Was Just Me1of the hundreds surveyed, the number one shame issue for women is appearance and body image. Jesus is changing that. A quote from one FP4H member: “I finally believe my husband. He has told me for years that I am beautiful, but I never believed him. Finally, because of what Jesus is teaching me in my FP4H Bible study, I believe him and I feel loved and cherished as never before.” Jesus is the chain breaker-In March I
