Read Your Shirt

Read Your Shirt

By the third eye roll, I was becoming a little frustrated. She came to me for fitness coaching and when I suggested she start exercising just a couple of times a week, she responded “I can’t because of my back.” When I suggested cutting back on calories, she responded “I live by myself and it’s not possible for me to cook healthy for one person.” She said she was hoping that I would tell her something new and different, not the same old stuff. I sat quietly praying and thinking. Then I noticed her t-shirt; it was just a regular t-shirt with lots of crazy designs going on. But in the very middle was a small bubble that read “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Underneath that was Philippians 4:13 Brilliant! I said, “Read your shirt.” I’m not sure she remembered what she was wearing

Has God Moved Your Cheese?

Has God Moved Your Cheese?

In Spencer Johnson’s book Who Moved My Cheese? four characters: two mice “Sniff” and “Scurry,” and two humans “Hem” and “Haw.” live in a maze. They return day after day to the same location consuming their delicious cheese. One day, they are at a loss when someone moved their cheese. Do you need help with the changes planned for your life? Are you ready to do something new? My honest response most often is No. I want the transformation without the disruption to my routine. When I am stuck in a rut, everything slows. I need to intentionally “move my cheese.” Here are three areas in which you can stop hemming and hawing, and kick start your wellness journey.

Changed from the Inside Out

Changed from the Inside Out

Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. EPHESIANS 5:19 I meet many women and men who have lost a lot of weight on the First Place 4 Health program. When I ask them how much weight they have lost, I get the same answer close to 100 percent of the time. The person will say, “I have lost weight, but that’s not the most important thing that has happened to me. The spiritual impact has changed my life.” Another statement I frequently hear is, “God has changed me from the inside out.” Even though most people join the First Place 4 Health program to lose weight, they find that the weight is a secondary problem that can only be addressed after the spiritual components are learned. When I joined the program in 1981, I had never set aside a daily time of Bible reading, Bible study or
