
- 1 tbsp. paprika
- 1 tsp. cayenne
- 2 tbsp. garlic powder
- 2 tbsp. onion power
- 1 tbsp. dried thyme
- 2 tbsp. dried oregano, crushed
- 1 tbsp. kosher salt
- 1 tbsp. freshly ground black pepper
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl and store in an airtight container.
Makes about 1/2 cup seasoning. This recipe is great on everything! Any time a recipe calls for salt and pepper, you can subsitute blackening spice. For a tangy snack try it sprinkled on peeled, cut cucumber. More suggestions for how to use blackening spice:
Blackened Fish or Chicken: Generously brush both sides of fish fillets or thinly sliced boneless skinless chicken breasts with melted butter. Sprinkle evenly with Blackening Seasoning; set aside. Heat cast iron skillet on high heat until very hot. Place fish or chicken in hot skillet. Cook 1 ½ to 2 minutes per side or until charred and cooked through.
Blackening seasoning also tastes good on roasted potatoes or mixed into mayo for a savory spread for burgers, wraps, and sandwiches!
