2018 – Your Best Year Ever!

2018 - Your Best Year Ever!

This could be your best year ever with one simple decision—you change your name. I’ve never wanted to change my name. I’ve always liked Vicki Rhea Hensley Heath. I do remember, as a teenager, I started calling myself by another name. In high school, I never felt like I measured up; “less than” was a name I started using.  As a young pastor’s wife, I felt my name should be “inadequate” many days. When you look at yourself in the mirror, what name do you call yourself? Failure? Lazy? Ugly? Loser? Pathetic? Unhappy? Hopeless? Too old? Too tired? When you introduce yourself to someone, do you say in your mind “Happy to meet you! “My name is nobody.”  It’s time we stopped calling ourselves by these inappropriate names. These are not our names. What would happen if we changed our names to the names God calls us? What would happen

Top Ten Ways to Wreck Your Christmas

Top Ten Ways to Wreck Your Christmas

I love Christmas—every single, crazy minute of it. I love the advent, presents and spending time with my family. I will admit that not every Christmas has turned out exactly as I had planned. How many times have you sat down on Christmas afternoon among the strewn wrapping paper, abandoned presents and food, and thought “Wow, glad that’s over?” If Christmas tends to be a disappointment to you or leaves you completely exhausted, there are ways to ensure that it will happen the same way this year. I’ve come up with the top ten ways to wreck your Christmas and believe me, I have experienced every one of them at one Christmas or another.  I am not judging! Overschedule the holiday. It usually starts the week after Thanksgiving and doesn’t let up until New Year’s Day. I just sent a “No, I won’t be coming.” RSVP to a Christmas party here

At the Top of My Thankful List – Friendship

At the Top of My Thankful List - Friendship

I was leaving choir practice when I heard behind me, “Hey, Vicki! It’s time to retire those jeans!” Who said that? A true friend is one who said that. Penny is a new friend and I adore her. She hoped she had not hurt my feelings with her comment about my jeans. “I want you to look your best,” she said, as we walked to the car. Penny showed up in my Body & Soul class about a year ago and has been speaking truth over me ever since. Proverbs 27:6 (NLT) says, “Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.”  I was not offended, not in the least. She has also prayed over my knees, calling down God’s healing mercies for me. I know she loves me enough to speak truth over me. She is a friend who is making a difference in my

God’s Gift of Faith

God's Gift of Faith

I am thankful for God’s gift of faith.  A friend asked for prayer as she approached “one hundred pounds.” She sensed doubt and fear as she approached a weight she hadn’t seen in decades. For some of us, when we are about to realize a large victory, we begin to worry about what’s next instead of celebrating. First, I congratulated my friend for recognizing the perfect storm wreaking havoc on her emotions. It would seem the enemy was whispering lies creating unbelief in the plan God had for her.  His plan is to “prosper, give us hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Our enemy, the devil, is happy to deceive us and attempt to knock us off track. I remembered my struggle to believe reaching my long-term goal would be realized.  Unbelief leads to fear and emotion that can take hold and shackle our progress. Fear and faith do not exist together.

We All Got Something

We All Got Something

What are you dealing with today? Anything causing you to lose sleep or be anxious? Of course there is! It’s been one of the most eventful years in history. I’m writing this in a hotel room in Charleston, SC, because we have no power, no water, no cable and no Wi-Fi, thanks to Hurricane Irma. I have to say my anxiety meter has been running nonstop for about two months now. As many of you know, our distribution warehouse is located in Galveston, TX, which was right in the path of Hurricane Harvey. The warehouse remained high and dry and we are so thankful. It could have been nerve-wracking texting with Lisa Lewis through the storm, but so many of you were praying for our materials; it saved us both from a nervous breakdown. But what about Houston? Our beautiful FP4H heritage started in Houston! On top of the Galveston

Double Your Impact, Double Your Good-UPDATE

Double Your Impact, Double Your Good-UPDATE

I am so honored to lead such a generous ministry of people with one goal – Putting Christ First in everything! Early in spring we set a goal of matching a $25,000 donation by August 1. God has been amazingly moving among His people the last few months. He worked in many incredible ways to help us raise funds for our new materials. One group had a huge garage sale where their FP4H group collected and donated items. They were so clever at the sale by not pricing the items. They told people it was a fund raiser and to consider whatever they paid for the item as a donation.  It saved them time and they feel certain people paid more because they knew it was going to a good cause. Another group hosted a FP4H Fun “5K” fundraiser for their Victory Celebration. All of the class participated in various

Best Summit Ever!

Best Summit Ever!

When I arrived in Atlanta for Summit 2017, God was already at work overcoming the enemy’s numerous obstacles. Our event coordinator’s car was booted when she stepped away from her car to find me at the bus station. No problem! She handled it with a credit card and a “Have a blessed day” to the tow-truck operator. Two of the 23 boxes of merchandise were redirected back to Texas because of a label issue.  No problem! Our staff and volunteers knew the situation and didn’t buy anything until after everyone else had first choice. Our host church experienced a flurry of funerals and illnesses the week before the event.  No problem! Others stepped in to help. God worked in and through many lives during our time at Summit. Here are my top five God sightings: #5     Crossroads Church’s outstanding hospitality. Their culture to serve others unconditionally rippled through their staff, volunteers,

Five Best Things about a Fresh Start

Five Best Things about a Fresh Start

My husband calls me the Queen of Starting Over. One thing for sure, we all need a fresh start sometimes. The Bible even says we should approach each new day with a fresh outlook on what God can do. Here are five reasons I am proud to be the Queen of Starting Over: It beats the alternative. The alternative of a fresh start would be a stale stuck. Do you really want things to stay status quo? For things to change you have to change something. And that will never happen if you don’t start afresh. You are smarter this time. It’s true. Every session of FP4H, even though I may not reach all of my goals, I am smarter. God’s word is making me wise beyond my years. Why not keep going? It’s an opportunity to get it right from the beginning. I teach cardio fitness routines choreographed to contemporary Christian music.

Can Freedom Be For Real?

Can Freedom Be For Real?

What does freedom mean to you? Freedom means different things to different people. For some, being out from under the burden of debt and financial worry is their definition of freedom. Being released from an abusive relation could be the definition of freedom for some. According to my 15-year-old granddaughter freedom, is “getting to do what you want, when you want.”  Yep, I get that. I was 15 once.   My pastor husband, “the ability to do what you want without undue restraint” – I love the undue restraint. Very clergy-like.   Young gen X’er, “the ability to do that which you most desire to do.”  (Quoting Augustine…I think.)   An 18-year-old young man: “the American flag.”  Now that is serious. Google Definition: Freedom (noun) The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic government.

Be Right

Be Right

It may sound odd and not good grammar, but “Be right” is right. My first thought on this part of the commandment to love the Lord with all of your soul, would be to “do right”. But we know it’s not about doing; it’s about being. Being a child of God and not necessarily doing everything right. Doing right would be trying to earn God’s love and affection for me.  If that were true Jesus died in vain. I can be right with God because of His great gift of salvation. Jesus paid the price for our sin. We do not have to pay the penalty. He has done this for us as His Grace Gift. Therefore, I can be right. This is where it starts. When we have Christ, we have new life, a better life, and apart from Christ there is no “Best Life”. He is the way,
