What Does “Best Life Ever” Mean Anyway?

What Does "Best Life Ever" Mean Anyway?

What does a conference about “best life ever” mean anyway? What does a really well-lived, healthy life look like? I look around and I don’t see many examples. I see people walking around in unhealthy bodies, depressed, angry and hopeless. Jesus speaking in John 10:10 describes that kind of life very well.  He said “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” NIV (emphasis added) What does life to the full mean for you?  I believe Jesus was talking about an abundant life in every area of who we are; body, soul, mind and spirit. It means there is a hopeful way to deal with the depression that has been plaguing you. It means there is a healthy way to lose weight and live a holy lifestyle. It means there is a way to

Double Your Impact, Double Your Good

Double Your Impact, Double Your Good

I love the FP4H program.  I loved it from the first class in 1981, even though at the time I wasn’t interested in doing the whole program.  God’s plan for my life was to use the FP4H program to build me into the woman He desired for me to become. It wasn’t until 1984, when I gave up control of my life, that the real work could begin.  God and God alone is the One who has given me the gift of balanced living in all four areas: spiritual, mental, emotional and physical. When I retired in 2014, it was the sweetest time I have ever had with my Lord.  The Holy Spirit gently spoke to my heart and said, “Carole, there wouldn’t be a more perfect time to retire than now.” So I did it the very next morning!  Johnny went on hospice the next month and I was

Our Plan

Our Plan

Yes, we can! Nothing is impossible with God. We cannot wait another day. We are ready and prepared to conquer the obesity epidemic in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. We need to take back what the enemy has so craftily stolen from us—the health of the church. And we have a plan!  We believe God has the funds we need to reach this goal! Phase One: May 1 to July 1– Match the donor!   Carole Lewishas stepped up to give $25,000 to FP4H and is asking for five of you to give $5,000 to match it. Just five people can get this thing rolling to reality. Of course, wouldn’t it be just like God to move more than five people to match this donation?  It is entirely possible for all of the money to be raised by this one beautiful donation—inspiring others to give. Phase Two:  August 1 to September 1– Kick Starter campaign! Additional donations

I Give Up

Okay, you started out in January with a bang, slowed down a little in February and now you’ve quit. What’s Next? Get the magnet!  I love our FP4H magnet that says, “Setbacks are temporary but quitting is permanent.” It happens to all of us. You do not want to stay stuck in the feeling of failure. Every time you give up on your wellness  journey, you have two choices: keep walking backwards, which will place you even farther away from your goal (If you chose this option, says my husband, Rob, “Make sure your insurance is paid up because you are going to need it!”), or you can take the steps necessary to begin again. What steps do I need to take to start again? Let go of the slipup.  Joyce Meyer says, “We will all fail in life, but nobody has to be a failure. Failing at a thing doesn’t make you

Seven Brilliant Ideas I Tried to Lose Weight

Seven Brilliant Ideas I Tried to Lose Weight

Seeing all of this diet craziness on Facebook takes me back to the old days. I probably tried just about every diet out there. I tried the blood pledge with my sister; we pricked our fingers and vowed to lose weight. We didn’t! I ate cabbage every day for a week, alternating the next week with bananas. I did not lose weight; I only ended up hating cabbage. I know people are desperate to lose weight, but there is no magic trick. Even  the things we thought, for so long, would work, don’t work at all. Here is my list of things I thought would work — Will Power – I know people with the strongest will power ever known, and they still cannot lose weight. It’s so much more complicated than that. Our willpower is not limitless.  Eventually, it runs out. We have to have a power source much larger

Honor Thy Health

Honor Thy Health

Hey friends, here is my New Year’s Question:  Why are you doing the same thing you did last year that didn’t work? Year after year people make the same commitments to “really lose the weight this time” and nothing changes. I’m not judging. I know about that.  Why not let God help, and stop this thing once and for all. This is how it can happen. The conference was over and I was boxing up my table. The crowd was rushing by on their way to lunch. She hung on to my table like a life preserver. “Do you think this program would work for me?” As I looked into her face, I saw a beautiful obese woman who had lost all hope of ever losing weight.  Not knowing a thing about her other than what I could see in her eyes, I quickly answered “yes”. There was not much

I Have No Gift To Bring

Have you ever thought about giving Jesus a Christmas present?  We exchange gifts in my family, of course; Santa even comes for the little ones every year. We also, as a family, give a substantial mission offering. But what about Jesus? Shouldn’t He get a gift? After all, it’s His birthday. From a biblical perspective, we remember the first Christmas gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh brought by the Magi to the new born king. These three gifts had meaning. If I’m giving Him a gift, I want to give Him something meaningful. I really had to think about this before I could come up with anything that was really worthy. I can identify with The Little Drummer Boy who had nothing to bring except the playing of his drum. What do we have that is worthy? What can we bring to the King of Kings?  It must be something

Year-End Giving

Year-End Giving

2016 has been a year full of blessings and challenges for First Place 4 Health. We launched several virtual classes, published a new bible study, a new holiday devotion and a long awaited cookbook. We celebrated 35 years of ministry and we have plans for much, much more, but we need your help. Publishing our own materials is a great benefit to us, but it means we have to carry the burden of providing all of the funding necessary to produce the materials. Our materials need to be updated and we are working diligently to bring new and fresh products to you. There are two ways you can help the ministry during these exciting, but challenging times.  The first is by including First Place 4 Health in your year-end giving plans.  I know many of you love this ministry and it has changed your life. This ministry matters and we

Thankful for Weird Things

Thankful for Weird Things

Cleaning out under the house after Hurricane Matthew, I came across an old prayer journal from my first year as a Christian, 1972. My Sunday School teacher at FBC Jacksonville had challenged us to list 100 things for which we were thankful. But there was a catch.  The items could not be the typical things like your family, your church, friends etc. Those things are not trivial, but I think she really wanted us to understand thankfulness on another level. Just a few from my list: electric curlers, backpack, chewing gum, softball and pay phones. Those are weird things. I wish I could remember why I listed them. Let’s start a new list of weird and unusual things to give thanks for. First on my list: pain. I never thought I would find myself giving thanks for the physical pain I have in my body.  It’s been several years now
