Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

My journey to lose weight began a few years ago, after the birth of my third son. I joined a First Place 4 Health group at my church. I was ready to conquer my weight issues, but I soon learned that there were others things I needed to address before I lost weight. During the first study, I found out just how broken I was: full of resentment, jealously and a negative attitude. Yes, I was a Christian, but my attitude did not reflect this to others. With each study, God began to peel away these negative attitudes. During the process, God was faithful, because He kept me on track—not losing or gaining weight— while He continued to heal me of these issues. Now I have been leading a small group of ladies in my home. This past fall, during a Bible study, God said, “Penny, we can now work on your weight.” I suddenly received a desire to exercise, eat right and cook healthy meals for my family. I now wake up every day with a renewed purpose. I look for the good in others, as well as myself. Because of God’s help, and the support of my First Place 4 Health group members, I have lost 30 pounds during the study. I am confident that God, who began a good work in me, will carry it on to completion.
PRAYER: Father God, thank You for not giving upon me, even though I wanted to give up on myself. I know that I am Your work in progress and that You will complete Your good work in me within Your timeframe.
JOURNAL: What work does God want to complete in you? Is there anything you need to give to Him in order for Him to work through you?
