May 2003

We started our Spring session of “First Place” on March 24th. We will continue through Monday, June 2nd. We have (I believe) 20 in this session, which includes four men. I am always excited when we have men in our group. Anita and I started something about a year ago that has worked well for us, and has been received well by our “First Place” groups. We all meet together, on Mondays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. One week Anita does the Bible Study overview and I do the wellness feature. The next week we alternate. It has gone real well.

Anyway, we are enjoying the material. We are doing “Seeking God’s Best” this session, which, as you know, is about Ruth. What an exciting study! But, what has been most exciting about the past two sessions is how we are reaching out into our commmunity, with as many as 1/3 of our group being from other churches or those who happen to live in our area. We have also had people come who have found out about our meetings from the “First Place” web page and have called to inquire.

Just thought you would want to know what’s happening in East Tennessee. God bless you. Give our love to the “First Place” staff.

This picture is of part of our First Place class! We ran a 5K race at the University of the Ozarks. A few members of our class are: Irene (far left) has lost 69 pounds, Leona (next to Irene) has lost 40 pounds, Stacie is new to First Place and won a medal at the race, and I am on the far right. I’m planning to run the Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day with my son and his wife, who live in Colorado. There will be 45,000 runners! Special thanks goes to Rob Heath and Round Top FOCUS Week!
